Trader Joe’s Vegetable Bird’s Nest (vegan)

birdsnestAn intriguing product from Trader Joe’s that doesn’t quite live up to expectations. Two pineapples for too much oil and onions.

I don’t eat fried foods on a regular basis, but I do enjoy them. However, these Vegetable Bird’s Nest were disappointing. The onions overwhelm the other vegetables (carrot and kale) and both the onions and batter are greasy. I understand that this is going to be an oily dish, but oil oozes out when you bite into it.

On the upside the dipping sauce is really good. If you like onion rings and aren’t put off by oil, you’ll probably enjoy these more than I did.

I buy these for almost every party and they are always the first thing gone on the table!

I tried this item a few days ago for the first time and found it to be quite delicious. It was a perfect appetizer and I will definitely purchase this item again the next time I happen upon a Trader Joe’s. Although it would be nice if there were a Trader Joe’s near Denton Texas. One of the reasons why I kick myself in the rear for not purchasing more than one box of the vegetable bird nests.
