Trader Joe’s Stir Fry Vegetables (vegan)

stirfryfrozenThis frozen stir fry mix has a nice selection of vegetables, but suffers the fate of all frozen stir fry mixes. The vegetables just don’t have the fresh taste and crisp texture that are the crucial characteristic of a good stir fry.

Even though TJ’s wisely sliced the mushroom and carrots very thin so they cook quickly, the snow pea pods and bean sprouts are mush before this dish is even warm. This dish convinces me that fresh vegetables are the only way to go for a stir fry.

No sauce is provided in this package, but Trader Joe’s sells several stir fry sauces. A bit of oil, soy sauce and hot pepper sauce will work in pinch.

If you’re serving this as an entrĂ©e, you’ll probably want to add some tofu chunks or nuts and serve over rice or noodles to make it more filling and satisfying.
