Trader Joe’s Greens, Beans and Grains

greensbeansI was intrigued by this new entree given the interesting combination of ingredients and the fact that it’s “West African inspired”.

On a positive note the couscous is perfect – moist, yet fluffy. Unfortunately, the topping is an unappealing brown color and the flavors aren’t very pleasant. In particular the combination of peanuts and tomatoes doesn’t quite work.

At only 280 calories and only 80 calories from fat this is a very healthy dish. However, you’ll probably be hungry if this is all you eat.

Seems like this dish should be vegan, but it contains butter.

Just had this for lunch. It was FANTASTIC! It’s not a beaute to look at, but tastes wonderful. Perfect amount of spice, some good staying power due to the garbanzos, couscous and peanut sauce. Not *too* much kale. I just loved it! Looking for a copycat recipe right now.

I absolutely loved it. I could eat this twice a week, easily. Only reason I wouldn’t is due to not wanting to eat too many frozen foods due to high sodium content. This will definitely be a go-to when I do have frozen meals!

As an add-on to my first comment. The crunchiness of the peanuts definitely got lost in the cooking process, but didn’t miss them. You would have to add you own fresh peanuts.

I loved it…I did mix in half of an avocado – making it creamier. I would definitely buy this again!

I thought it was delicious, and filling. I love spinach with tomatoes and peanut butter sauce, so the kale cooked that way was right up my alley.

Oh my gosh! So delish…! Love it, I don’t agree with the two pineapple rating.

As a vegetarian, I often try new entrees that I see there and am often disappointed. However this one I really liked.

This looks to be inspired by the west African dish “maafe”. I’ve had that before in a Senegalese restaurant and absolutely loved it.

I just tried this for the first time and I actually really like this dish a lot. I paired it with a salad and was not hungry at all after. The combination of flavors was really different. I found myself craving it again and just like all good Trader Joe’s products I hoped they would not discontinue it like they have so many of my favorites.
