Trader Joe’s Ancient Grain Pizza

ancientpizzaAn interesting, colorful and satisfying pizza. Crust is just the right thickness, has a good texture and cooks up nicely (not soggy). The tomatoes and asparagus are almost too bright and fresh for a pizza. I know that sounds odd, but pizza ingredients sort of need to meld together rather than stand out individually.

Grilling or roasting the vegetables would have added a nice flavor and rustic appearance. Also note that the majority of asparagus pieces are stems not tips which is understandable, but looks a bit odd.

The amount of cheese is just right. Enough to satisfy, but not seem unhealthy. The sauce could use a little more flavor. I’ll buy this again, but will probably add some garlic or pesto to boost the flavor.

Watch the calories. I could easily eat the whole pizza, but that’s over 900 calories! Stick to half and add a side salad instead.
